Craving

I'm really craving these two movies:

Basically, these are the only two Christmas movies that I will watch at anytime of the year. I have lines memorized, I have scenes down by heart (I used to rewind the part where Kevin throws the bricks off the roof and hits Marv in the face over and over)! I used to be terrified of these films, because of the slight fear that I would get robbed (lets face it, I was the kid that always asked mom if the alarm on our house was set before I went to bed each night). I got over that quickly, however, and now laugh hysterically everytime I see them! I know that the jokes are kind of corny, I know that the hairstyles and clothes are so out of style... but its just one more thing that makes it so funny! And another thing... the third and fourth ones are lame... so very lame!

Its the Most Wonderful Time of the Year!

It's official... We are ready for Christmas!!! There is so much snow outside...check! We have a cute outdoor decoration, and christmas lights up on the house...check!

We have cute decorations inside to get us in the Chrismtas spirit... Check!

We have a cute tree skirt that has cute snowmen on it, that Lyla loves to chew on... Check!

And last, but not least, we have a cute tree that is up... complete with Mickey and Minney at the top, cute ornaments, candy canes, a star on top, and colored lights... check, check, check!

And we have each other.... HUGE CHECK!!!:)

I am so excited to spend Christmas with Dixon, I love him so much, and he makes Christmas ten times better.. is that possible, I think yes!

Christmas... here we come!:)

I have the BEST husband!!! This is what I found this morning as I was getting ready!

A little more than slightly crazy

I know I said I was slightly crazy, but I'm pretty sure I'm a little more than slightly crazy.
So today I was gettin ready for school and I put all my books in my bag that I need, I make sure that my iPod and phone are in my bag, then with keys in hand I walk out the door. I park in "my spot" and I get ready to walk to class... thank goodness for the warm weather, its so much nicer than the bitter cold... anyways, I go to walk to class and I realize I don't have my backpack. So I walk back to the car and guess what... no backpack. So I drove back home, found my pack right where I left it, and was officially late for class. O the joys of being crazy... at least I got a good laugh out of it.

-I love that she loves the Jonas Brothers and knows every lyric as well as every fact about each of them

- I love her great example and that she can make friends wherever she goes. At two she would want to bring friends home that she met at the playground

-I love her sense of humor, she can always make me laugh, even when I don't feel like laughing!

Tis the Season to be Thankful

I love Thanksgiving! I love every holiday... mostly because it means a much needed break from school...
Here are some of the things I love about the fall and Thanksgiving:

-I love the smell of freshly baked pumpkin chocolate chip cookies (I love to eat them too)
-I love putting fall wreaths on the door
-I love to think about all the things I'm grateful for (which I try to do daily, but I do it a lot more at this time of year)
-I love that stores start putting up Christmas decorations (no I don't like to put up Christmas decorations before Thanksgiving)
-I love the fall colors, especially orange
-I love wearing my slippers and curling up in blankets
-I love drinking hot chocolate (probably a little too much)
-I love making yummy soup
-I love that seasons are changing (even though I'm not a big fan of the snow, but I love the change of scenery that changes with the seasons)
-I love all the pumpkins
-Actually I love pumpkin anything: pumpkin bread, pumpkin pie, pumpkin cookies, pumpkin pie shakes, pumpkin cheesecake
-I love that seeing family is right around the corner
-I love traditions
-I love having stuffing, sweet potatoes, green bean casserole, squash, mashed potatoes, and other yummy Thanksgiving foods
-I don't love that it gets dark so fast... but it means I get to wake up to the sunshine and I love the sunshine

The Impossible

I did it!! I did the impossible! No I didn't learn to fly, no the day hasn't come that I haven't burned dinner, no I didn't get an A on my test, no I didn't find a way to stay awake in my English class... so what did I do that is so great?!! Drumroll please...

I BEAT DIXON AT MADDEN!!!!

not only did I beat him... I totally dominated!

conclusion: I think he should have to carry the backpack next Disneyland trip, no questions asked

slightly crazy

Some days I feel like I'm losing my mind. Is it because of lack of sleep, the overload of information from my school work, the pressure at work, the chemicals from the cleaning products I use, or just the fact that I might be slightly crazy?

Despite my theories, this is what truly proves that I'm losing my mind:

I was runing late to class... and I was so frustrated cuz I couldn't find my keys. I looked everywhere... even in the dumb places I knew they wouldn't be. Still, no keys. So I decide to take the spare keys and hope that my other ones turn up soon. I get to class and reach in my bag to grab a pencil... sure enough there are my keys... I had grabbed them and put them in my bag that morning so I wouldn't have to look for them when I was ready to leave... hmmmm.... conclusion: I might be losing my mind!

Boy: there is this wheelchair girl thats stalking me. I hear a flash from her camera and then i hear her wheelchair squeaking away, I think she's taking pictures of me

Girl: That's kind of creepy

Thieves

O the joys of work at Payless!

So a week ago, I was working, and with about five minutes until close, a couple walks in. that is a HUGE pet peeve of mine... don't come in with five minutes till close... I had been working since one, and I was ready to get out of there and get home! Well, I walk up to the lady and let her know we're closing soon and she says ok, then goes into the biggest rant about how she's pregnant and she doesn't know how she got pregnant, and basically she was creeping me out. So then the man that was with her comes out of the men's aisle with BRAND NEW tennis shoes on. So I walk over to the aisle, find the empty box and his old disgusting shoes stashed on the shelf..... This man was going to steal from us.
So, I have the other associate that was working with me keep an eye on them and i call the police. The cops showed up and asked the man about his shoes and he was so senile... he kept saying over and over that he has dimensia and his words are so slurred you can barely understand a word he's saying. This is the following conversation between him and the police officer:
officer: Are you going to pay for those shoes on your feet?
man: I didn't get them here
officer: well why are your old shoes stashed on the shelf?
man: they were there when I got here
officer: If you leave with those shoes on you'll be arrested

at this point another officer has shown up, and is being summoned by a customer. The customer tells him he just wittnessed the couple sweeping off their table from applebees before they came into the store. The officer walks over and looks in their two applebee's bags... and sure enough there are plates, silverwhere, breadbasket, condiments, salt and pepper shakers, and glasses from their meal at the restaurant! There were also some energy drinks and work gloves from Walmart. When questioned about why they stole all the stuff from their table the girl replied, "That's what my mother taught me to do when I was a little girl, so you should take it up with her!" Nothing like having a variety of different kinds of silverware, plates, salt and pepper shakers, and breadbaskets to decorate with!
So they were cuffed right then and there. The police were so familiar with the woman they called her by her first name when they saw her... I guess she's had a few more incidences with the law. So, instead of getting home at 9:00 like I wanted to, I got home at 10:30, after filling out witness forms and letting the police take pictures of the evidence. Come to find out the two were so intoxicated.... I knew they were acting funny, but I couldn't smell the alcohol on them, so I didn't know for sure. I'm just so grateful that they weren't mean drunks, that could have been really scary.
Call me a hero if you want. I caught thieves.
Just another day in the life of Shay

For my English class I get to do a ten page report on Henry David Thoreau. As I have been doing some research, I have come across some of his quotes. Some of these I think are funny, but some I think are so profound. Just thought I would share a few that I thought were interesting:

Our Disneyland Adventure

Let me start off by apologizing. I am not a very good picture taker... I have a hard time keeping up on pictures. I don't like having to pull out the camera and ask a random stranger to take pictures of us. I always enjoy them when I get them back, but I still have a hard time taking lots of pictures. I'll get better, I promise. We had a blast at Disneyland and California Adventure this past weekend... here are some hi-lights! These two pictures are at Buzz Lightyear's astro blasters. This was our favorite ride, pretty sure we rode it at least six times. The point of the ride is to shoot the most targets. Me and Dixon bet that whoever shot the least amount of targets had to carry around the backpack.... notice who is carrying the backpack in all the pictures.

It was so fun to be there at Halloween time. Everything was decorated so cute. It really got me in the mood for Halloween!

This ride was awesome! It was the new Woody ride at California Adventure and its another shooting game. I had the backpack on shortly after this ride.

We had to go on the carousel! I can't remember the last time I have ever been on one!

Overall, we had a BLAST, and we can't wait for our next vacation. Its getting that point in school where its hard to stay motivated. We were grateful for the oppertunity to get away for a while!

I Stand Corrected

I stand corrected. I have just been informed that iPhone is spelled with a lower case i and a capital P! apparantly iPod is spelled with a lower case i and capital P also! This just goes to show how very much I know about modern technology!

Our Fun Weekend!

This weekend we got to head up to SLC! On Friday, we got to meet up with Dixon's friend, Tyler, and ate at his family's restaurant in Lehi called Charly Boy's! It was the best BBQ I have had in the longest time! I highly highly recommend it! We then ventured off to Dixon's mission reunion! I have come to the conclusion that I LOVE portuguese. It is the most beautiful language! Dixon's mission president and his wife are amazing people! I feel so blessed to get to meet them, even though it was for just a few moments. We took off with one of his good friends, Trevor after the reunion and tried hard to find a red mango. Their Iphones couldn't lead us to the right spot, so we had to do the old school thing and actually call Red Mango to ask for directions. This is my first experience where the Iphone led us astray! We eventually got there tho, and it was delicious... I love frozen yogurt. It was a very fun people observing place too, I thoroughly enjoyed myself!

Saturday we got to spend the day with the fam! My dad helped us start our day off right by making the BEST banana nut pancakes!! We caught the first session of conference and then headed to Landon's football game! It was freezing... I suggested that we get hot chocolate on our way, but that was vetoed, and when we got to the game everyone wished they would have listened to me! I love the rain though, and we got to meet Lyndee's new boyfriend, Kyler, so that was fun!
I think one of the highlights of this trip was lunch at Red Robin. I have been craving their Whisky River BBQ chicken salad for the past three months, and it hit the spot!
Dixon went to conference with Alec, and I got to meet up with them later that night... We were our best rock star selves as we worked together to form a great band in Rock Band on the Wii.
I got to go with my sisters and mom to the movie Nights in Rodanthe. They did a good job with it, the story was almost exactly how the book was, even the script was the same. However, despite that the story was very accurate, I thought the movie was a little slow paced. I had a blast though laughing with my sisters and mom!

Yesterday we did family pictures with my grandma before she loses her hair. She started chemo on Friday. I hate chemo. I love that it helps fight the cancer, but man, it just makes you so dang sick!
It was so good to see all of our family and friends! Thanks you guys for so many great memories!:)

Happy 42 Mom and Dad

Growing up, I always thought it was so cool that my parents were only a week apart... I thought it was a sure sign of fate that they were supposed to be together! They each also have three girls in their family and one boy, another sure sign, but thats beside the point!

I guess I'll start with my mom since her's was yesterday! I feel so blessed to have the mom that I have! She is the kind of person that is always serving others. Growing up, I remember her always finding ways to serve our neighbors... she is such a great example to me. We have been best friends through thick and thin. Some fun memories that I share with my mom include:
-weeding together
-Dancing to That Thing You Do, while taking homework breaks
-Coming home from school and always having someone to talk to
-Laying on the end of her bed till late hours of the night and talking and laughing together
-She would leave me little notes in random places to remind me that she loved me
-Her doing cheers in the kitchen while waiting for dinner to be done
-Her never ending encouragement through each challenge and success I have been through
-She made me ditch calculus to go to lunch with her... it was totally worth it
-Taking me to the library the night before advanced theater auditions and making me get a monologue memorized, when I had gived up on the idea of trying out
-Watching Opra together

We have had some good times. I am so blessed to call her my best friend. She is one of the most positive people, and has such a fun sense of humor! I am so lucky to be blessed with her in my life! I love you mom! Happy Birthday!

Now for my dad. His birthday was on the 17. My dad is an amazing man, he has been through so much, and has learned from it all. He is a man of wisdom, he always views every situation through both points of view, and he is such a great dad to all his daughters. Some fun memories that I have with my dad include:
-Him getting down on one knee and asking me to accept my promise ring
-Him singin to the radio on long car drives
-Helping me with every paper I have ever written
-Brainstorming my oratory
-Having him in every audience that I have ever performed for
-Helping him learn how to text
-His to die for cookies... mmmmm
-Leaving me notes of encouragement stuck in the door, so when I came home late from rehearsals I would find it

O my, me and my dad have such a special bond. I can talk to him about anything, and its not weird. He is such a strength in my life and has helped me so much in becoming the person that I am today! I love you Dad, Happy Birthday.

This past weekend we made a boys trek to New York. The whole point of the trip was our visit to Yankee Stadium, which I will cover in a different post. We did all the tourist stuff, Rockefeller Center, Empire State Building, 5th Avenue, Ground Zero, St. Patrick's Cathedral, Chinatown and Lady Liberty. We stayed at the Marriott Marquis in Times Square and had some great food! It was an awesome trip.
